Calendar and Course Credits
Distance Education Courses will be offered according to the general University academic calendar. Courses are offered on a quarter calendar, however, if appropriate, shorter cycles are permitted with the permission of the Distance Education office.
Final examinations will be scheduled according to the designated examination period for the quarter or cycle, unless otherwise approved by the Distance Education office.
Academic Credit will be awarded by designated course units on the basis of course content, course competence, extent of student time on task and instructor-student contact. A quarter credit hour represents a minimum of 50 minutes of instruction per week over a 10-week period, supplemented by two hours of preparation for each hour of instruction for the average student; or the equivalent amount of time (25 hours) in instructor designated learning activities. A quarter credit hour is equivalent to 2/3 of a semester credit hour. Time for final examinations is outside these specifications.
As with any transfer coursework, academic credit may be transferred from a distance education course offered by other colleges or universities that are accredited by recognized agencies.
